REST (Rapid Evaluation, Stabilization, and Treatment) is a crisis stabilization unit in New Haven, Connecticut run by Continuum of Care. It’s staffed by a nurse, a peer with lived experience, an advanced practice nurse practitioner, and a licensed clinician. When COMPASS teams are in the field and determine someone needs additional stabilization, they can bring them to REST, where they’re welcomed by a peer and given a 23-hour “lounger” spot for evaluation and possible medication management. Clients can also meet with a social worker to connect to resources and next-step placement, and they can access basic supports like showers, meals, phone calls, and laundry—aimed at helping them get back on their feet.
