Sequential Intercept Mapping (SIM) Report

SIM Workshop Facilitators: Madelon Baranoski, PhD, Reena Kapoor, MD,  Yale School of Medicine

The Sequential Intercept Mapping (SIM) workshop was organized as part of the City of New Haven’s plan to create a Community Crisis Response Team (CCRT), to provide an alternative response to existing emergency response options (fire, police, emergency medical services). Since NH-CCRT is intended to provide support to, among others, people who risk entering the criminal justice system, or who already have a history of criminal justice involvement, the SIM workshop was organized to:

1) reach a shared understanding of how people with mental illness and substance-use disorders move through the criminal justice system,

2) identify the community’s resources and gaps at each intercept, and

3) understand better how to divert individuals at each juncture of the criminal-legal system, including the role of the CCRT.
